About This Item
Looking for a commentary on the New Testament Gospel of Luke? Then this conservative, verse-by-verse 685-page hardback commentary is what you need! FIRST EDITION, reprinted in 1960.
Consider this very descriptive and informative online review: 'This commentary on Luke's Gospel, part of the NICNT series, is Norval Geldenhuy's contribution to the studies of the third Gospel. The writing is clear and concise, while exhibiting thoroughness and depth. Thus, the commentary is appropriate both for the scholar and layperson. Along with the verse-by-verse commentary on the text, there is a significant amount of introductory matter dealing with Dr. Luke, the sources, the date of writing, the style, and the aim of the Gospel. One will find Geldenhuy's discussion of the date of the writing of this Gospel particularly interesting. Unlike the consensus among critical scholars, who generally assign a post-70 AD date to its writing, Geldenhuy's makes a persuasive case for dating its writings in the 60s AD. At the back of the commentary is an "excursus" on the day and date of the crucifixion, which also is interesting and insightful.' The Forward was written by Dr. F. F. Bruce. There is a very complete valuable 9-page "Index of Scripture References". Norval Geldenhuys was the former Elsie Scholar at Princeton Theological Seminary and at Cambridge University.
