About This Item

New York: American Book Company, 1929. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. In 1929, Moore, a professor at Cornell University, published this book on education philosophy and on the need to teach citizenship as a part of American students' education and as essential as mathematics or english. This copy is a scarce first edition. About 5 1/4 x 7 1/2, 320 pages in dark green cloth-covered boards with gold lettering on spine. Boards show light wear along edges and spine ends, corners worn and lightly bumped. Previous owner's name on fep, text edges lightly soiled, o/w boards and text are clean, complete and unmarked. No tears, no creasing, no significant flaws or damage. A very decent, first edition copy of a teacher's manual which notes, "Less than two centuries ago there was no such thing as an American citizen. Today he constitutes one of the most dynamic figures of all history. His citizenship is at once a high privilege and a challenging responsibility.
