Signed by Jana Jacobs and inscribed to a former owner on the half-title page, "Best wishes to Brian Newman Portland May 2004". Bound in publisher's original red cloth with spine stamped in gilt. Very Good with light bowing to boards, minor rubbing to cloth with stray pen marks to textblock edge and front free endpaper. In a Very Good unclipped dust jacket with faint damp staining to spine and front cover at joint; light soiling and wear.

Jacobs, author of The Death and Life of Great American Cities, "shows how economic life expands and develops, on the one hand, as cities replace their imports with goods of their own production and improvise innovations on that foundation, and how they, and all the wide-ranging economic life they influence, decline and decay when these vital city processes falter and halt.

Synopsis

Jane Jacobs was the legendary author of The Death and Life of Great American Cities , a work that has never gone out of print and that has transformed the disciplines of urban planning and city architecture. Her other major works include The Economy of Cities , Systems of Survival , The Nature of Economies and Dark Age Ahead . She died in 2006.
