Tokyo: Asahi-Newspaper, 1958. First Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 1959 FIRST EDIITION. Official account of the first ascent of Chogolisa in the Karakoram. LACKING the just jacket. Original grayish tan cloth with white lettering cover and spine, original navy coated EPs. TEXT IN JAPANESE (no English translation published). The book has clean covers, minor rubbing at tips of corners, solid binding, no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, some marginal crease marks first two and last two pages, a few small spots on a preliminary page, generally no foxing, complete with all pages and photos (but LACKING the dust jacket). The book measures 263mm tall x 182mm, and has 138 pages of text + 113 b/w photos (including folding panorama) & 7 color photos on 88 pages, 3 maps (one in English). Text in Japanese, no English edition. Account of the first ascent of Chogolisa (7654m) in the Karakoram. The expedition, led by T. Kuwabara, ascended the East Ridge in 1958. Chogolisa was first attempted in 1909 by the Duke of Abruzzi, and then again in 1957 by Hermann Buhl & Kurt Diemberger. Buhl was killed on descent from his attempted ascent. This Japanese expedition also made first ascents of nearby "Kaberi Peak" (ca 7000m) and "Kondus Peak" (ca 6758m). PHOTOS ARE OF THE ACTUAL BOOK BEING OFFERED.
