About This Item

Cambridge, Mass.: Sever and Francis, 1863. This delightful collection of 173 poems (suitable for both teenagers and adults) from the world's greatest English-language poets, including Arnold, Blake, the Brownings, Byron, Chatterton, Coleridge, Emerson, Jonson, Poe, Scott, Shakespeare, Shelley, Swift, Tennyson, and Wordsworth, to name just a few. The book is in Good - Condition. It has burgundy cloth covers with gilt decorative elements on the front panel and gilt spine lettering, plus top-edge gilt. The exterior covers are somewhat warped and requiring weighting. The gilt is faded a bit, although the titles are readable. There is some corner and spine-tip fraying, as well as a few small holes in the spine cloth. See photo. As for the interior, the binding is secure. There is a penciled signature and design by the original owner on the front end paper. The text pages have an occasional small margin stains but are generally free of foxing. There is some foxing on the illustrated title page, however, due to the original foxed tissue guard, still present. The book measures 4 1/4 by 6 1/2 inches and includes 354 pages, with various indices and ads in the rear. . Hard Cover. Good -/No Jacket. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall.
