About This Item

London: Edward Arnold, 1916. First Edition. A large portion of the work (pp. 70-222) relates Wilson's experiences in Egypt, 1876-80, where he served as a government director of the Suez Canal Company, vice-president of the Commission to enquire into the Egyptian financial situation, Finance Minister, and president of the Commission for the Liquidation of the Egyptian Debt. In 1895 he became president of the Grand Trunk Railway of Canada, retiring in 1909 (pp. 267-82). He was involved in the negotiations that led to the formation of the Grand Trunk Pacific Company in 1903, and the construction of the western part of the transcontinental line from Winnipeg to Prince Rupert. The town of Rivers, Manitoba, is named after him. 8vo. pp. xiv, [1 leaf], 310, [14]incl ads. photogravure frontis. A rather brilliant copy in original cloth (few minor marks & small nick on rear cover, browning to title & frontis. from tissue guard)
