About This Item

London: Secker and Warburg. 1977. First UK edition, first printing. First UK edition, first printing. Original grey cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in dustwrapper. Illustrated with black and white in-text line drawings of tarot spreads and eight colour plates showing a selection of cards from the Visconti tarot deck. A very good copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth slightly mottled. The contents, with is a previous owner's name to the second half title and spotting to the closed text block edge are otherwise clean throughout. Complete with the lightly rubbed, creased and spotted dustwrapper that remains without fading, loss or tears. Not price-clipped (£4.50 on the front flap). An experimental novel based around the tarot. A number of travellers are mysteriously trapped in a castle and made unable to speak - the only way in which they can tell each other their stories is by choosing and arranging cards from a tarot deck. Part one uses the Visconti Tarot, part two uses the Tarot of Marseilles. Further details and images for any of the items listed are available on request.
