London: Archibald Constable & Co. Ltd., 1907. First Edition of this report on the excavations made in the Necropolis of Beni Hassan in 1902-04. Located high in the limestone cliffs on the east side of the Nile 245 kilometers south of Cairo, the necropolis belonged to local rules and military leaders and dates back to the Middle Kingdom from 2055 to 1650 BCE. It is noteworthy for its many elaborate brightly coloured wall paintings and drawings depicting daily life and warfare. 4to. pp. xv, 240. title in red & black. colour frontis., 15 plates & 231 photographic text illus. index. original cloth, t.e.g. (edges bit rubbed & frayed, marginal pencil notes, some gatherings loose)
