About This Item

Reprinted, for the Enlightenment of the Present Age, by the Peter Pauper Press, of Mount Vernon, New York, 1937. Limited edition of 1,450 copies. An essay on the curious practice in early America of courting couples and other unrelated persons sharing a bed, often while fully clothed and suitably 'bundled' against impropriety. A well-researched account of that "ridiculous and pernicious" custom and its antecedents in Europe and elsewhere. First published 1869. This edition with fanciful woodcut vignettes by Herb Roth. 8vo hardcover. 95 pp., + colophon. Cloth-backed paper boards, paper spine label. VG with modest wear and signs of age.
