About This Item
Berlin: Union Verlag, 1966 4to (28.5 cm), 308 pp. Publisher's cloth & dust jacket (two closed tears at the top). 160 illustrations. In this book Dr Rothe has chosen one illuminated miniature from each of 160 manuscripts, all taken from the collections in German Democratic Republic. So rich and varied were the resources available, and so long (400-1600) the period covered, that her opening chapter is in effect a history of western illumination from it dawn to its effectual decline.
