About This Item

Devonport, Nd(ca.1927): Swiss and Co. Thick Quarto. Half-title, color frontispiece, xxii, (1) pp. 492pp., with an index and a chronological index, illustrations and plans, 7 folding maps in rear pocket. The introduction explains why the text was set up in 9 parts and appendices which includes the casualties, services of Royal Marines, with units other than Royal Marines. Honours and awards. When possible, an account had been obtained from an officer or man who took part in each incident and thus, the compiler hoped to present a more intimate picture than would be possible from the official account alone. Each action is described in detail, where and when each incident took place nearly daily. A very nice copy bound in a modern 3/4 blue polished calf over original pictorial gilt cloth, raised bands with compartments and bands stamped in gilt, double black leather spine labels gilt, boards bowed just a tad bit, half-title has one corner showing some foxing and a few minute holes.
