Top fore-edge has been heavily stained, with light staining on the front and rear covers and free endpapers. "BPW" has been initialed on front free endpaper. Poems for Booker T. Washington, Mahalia Jackson, Louis Armstrong, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Wilson was born in Tacoma and became the second Black teacher hired by the Oakland Public School System in 1939 and worked there for 20 years before becoming an author.
