Hardcover edition, published by Harper & Row, 1962. This is a 1962 Book Club edition. The dust jacket is intact, and has been protected with a clear, removable cover. Jacket has a crease on the front, from the right top corner down to the 'N' in 'Nile'. Blue cloth covered boards, with the title and author name in gold on the spine and the Harper & Row torch logo on the front board - all lettering and design elements are crisp and not rubbed or worn. Boards are flat and the corners are not bumped or creased. 308 pages with Index, Sources, and two sections of photos. The map of the Nile attached between pages 20 and 21 is intact and has no tears or rips. This is the classic story of the exploration of the Nile River, from 1798 through the 19th Century, with a focus on the journeys of French, English, and Turkish explorers. Follow up to his earlier volume; 'The Blue Nile'. No former ownership marks, no writing on the text pages. The edges of the text block are clean. Binding is tight and square. There is a pencil mark on the top right corner of the ffep of a former price. Classic cover illustration. This copy is not a library discard, not a remainder.
