About This Item

Hardcover edition, published by Harper & Row, 1962. This is a 1962 Book Club edition. The dust jacket is intact, and has been protected with a clear, removable cover. Jacket has a crease on the front, from the right top corner down to the 'N' in 'Nile'. Blue cloth covered boards, with the title and author name in gold on the spine and the Harper & Row torch logo on the front board - all lettering and design elements are crisp and not rubbed or worn. Boards are flat and the corners are not bumped or creased. 308 pages with Index, Sources, and two sections of photos. The map of the Nile attached between pages 20 and 21 is intact and has no tears or rips. This is the classic story of the exploration of the Nile River, from 1798 through the 19th Century, with a focus on the journeys of French, English, and Turkish explorers. Follow up to his earlier volume; 'The Blue Nile'. No former ownership marks, no writing on the text pages. The edges of the text block are clean. Binding is tight and square. There is a pencil mark on the top right corner of the ffep of a former price. Classic cover illustration. This copy is not a library discard, not a remainder. Attached photo is of the copy we have in our inventory.

Synopsis

Hailed as "utterly absorbing, (as) sweeping as the mighty river itself" ("Washington Post"), the second volume in this two-book series expands the story of the dangerous search for the source of the Nile River.

About Hopkins Books

We're a small, independent, family run book seller specializing in current fiction and non-fiction, with an emphasis on Art, Art History, History, Memoirs, Travel Memoirs, Signed First Editions, and Literature in Translation.Do you have any questions about our books ? Let us know, we'd love to hear from you! Do you want to see a photo of a book before you order it ? We try to post as many photos as possbiel, but sometimes there will be a item in inventory that does not show a photo here. So feel free to ask for photos, we don't mind at all. We package all of our orders carefully either in a box that has been designed to ship books, or in a padded envelope. We want to make sure you receive your order in the best possible condition! Our preferred shipping method is USPS Media Mail. Recently, the USPS has added tracking to Media Mail , which has been a great addition to this service. If you do choose to have your order shipped "Expedited", my shipping cost may seem higher than expected. Some of our books are large format hardcovers that can cost quite a bit when shipped expedited. So I would like to make sure that I can cover the cost upfront. However, if the actual cost of expedited shipping is less than the charge, I will refund the difference!
