The edges of the cover are chipping and deteriorating; This book is about a man named Mr. Jarndyce who has a large legal case that is always taking up his time. He has three children who are all grown up and have families of their own. One day, he learns that one of his children, Mr. Wickfield, has died. Mr. Jarndyce is very upset and decides to go to court to get his estate. He eventually wins the case, but then learns that he has to pay the other side's lawyer, Mr. Jewells, a large sum of money. Mr. Jarndyce is not able to pay the money, so he moves into a house that he borrows from a friend. The house is very old and rundown, and it is not easy to live in.; 18mo; 928 pages .

Synopsis

Bleak House is the ninth novel by Charles Dickens, published in twenty monthly installments between March 1852 and September 1853. It is held to be one of Dickens's finest novels, containing one of the most vast, complex and engaging arrays of minor characters and sub-plots in his entire canon. The story is told partly by the novel's heroine, Esther Summerson, and partly by omniscient narrator.
