London: Dennis Dobson, 1956. First UK Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine Collectable/Fine. We believe this to be the first British (UK) edition. Black cloth with gilt spine titles. 358pp. Illus. Index. The middle of the ffep bears the neatly written fos of H. H. Grantham. In the same careful hand at the bottom is "Kabul, Afghanistan / November 1959." On the lower front paste down is an attractive green and white bookseller's label about 7/8" x 7/8" in the form of the back of an open book bearing the following imprint: Foyles (on spine), Charing Cross Rd London WC2 (back cover), and Catalogues Free BOOKS BOUGHT (front cover). This is a fine copy in a vg dj that is unclipped (25 shillings dot net--spelling the price out because at least one website selling my books thinks its an email address which to them is a no - no) and has light to moderate wear. I did try to find something about Grantham, but didn't dig deep enough for results. I believe some searching on ancestry or other records would bear fruit. This is a very collectible copy and now somewhat scarce. Dj flap opens by stating, "This is a report on the Gold Coast, a new British Dominion in the making.
