About This Item

Clarendon Press, Oxford, first edition, 1968. Cloth, 8vo,. xxvii, 809 pp. 8868 entries. An essential reference which identifies a mass of difficult-to-trace material. Aims to record all items of intrinsic interest irrespective of their size or provenance. From the blurb: "This is an enumerative bibliography classified under some 500 headings. It embraces all aspects of University and College life and institutions and comprises more than 10,000 entries. The compilers are both members of the staff of the Bodleian and they have systematically explored its vast resources as well as taking account of other likely repositories of Oxford material. In addition to books, the Bibliography includes articles from a large number of periodicals and records a mass of eighteenth and nineteenth century ephemeral literature which reflects University policy and politics, and which is probably unknown and unavailable outside the Bodleian. An ex-library copy with the dustwrapper in a protective sleeve taped to the boards, unsightly tapemarks to the endpapers and similar withdrawn stamp and residue of a label on the front free endpaper, stamps and marks on the title-page (recto and verso) and lower edge of the textblock, contents otherwise Good.
