About This Item
A bibliography collected, arranged, and annotated by Lawrence Lande. With an introduction by Edgar Andrew Collard. Montreal: Lawrence Lande Foundation for Canadian Research, 1965. Limited edition of 950 copies. Signed by Lande on the limitation page.
A richly illustrated bibliography of the important private collection of Canadiana assembled by Montreal businessman Lawrence Lande and donated to McGill University in 1964. A masterful letterpress production that is widely considered the finest book ever printed in Canada. A big, beautiful folio volume. Bound in one-quarter pigskin leather and linen cloth. Printed on special mould made papers, including some colored leaves. Bottom and fore-edge of the pages left untrimmed. Housed in a sturdy cloth-covered slipcase box with a mounted cover illustration reproduced from a 1769 work.
The bibliography contains entries for more than 2,300 books, pamphlets and broadsides related to Canada and Canadian history. xxxv, 301 pages, including four indexes. With 186 illustrated plates, some of them folding, that reproduce specimen pages and rare items in the Lande collection. Included are 10 facsimiles of broadsides, proclamations and posters, printed in the same size as the originals. Entries are divided into three parts: the early colonial period; the exploration and opening of the west and north of Canada; and literature and the arts before Confederation. An invaluable resource for scholars, historians, and collectors of Canadiana. A work for both the mind and the eye, in the best tradition of the art of the printed book.
Heavy book, will require extra postage.
