Illustrations by James Daugherty. Very Good book that has wear to board edges with bit of cardboard showing, soft at spine ends, two small bumps top edge of boards, bit of soiling and toning to edges of page block; in price-clipped Good dust jacket that has edge and corner wear with some color loss along folds and ends of spine, with sun darkening to spine, soiling and fading. This copy has been signed by Hunt on the half-title page, and there is a gift inscription to front end page, dated 1950. Book won a Newbery Honor Award in 1951.
