INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the author on the front free endpaper of the first volume: "Crawfordsville,/Nov. 21st, 1904./Dear Madam,/I can do little more/than write my name/here, and wish you/every happiness of life./Lew Wallace/Mrs. Beers." A fine example of this classic title, extremely difficult to find inscribed.
