New York: Bantam, [1946]., 1946. First edition. First paperback edition. Bantam 45. Inscribed by the author, "To---, from the days when books could be bought for 25c!" One of the earliest of Bantam books, with cover art and illustrated end-papers by Cal Diehl. Near fine in pictorial wrappers. Story set in the little Italian town of Adano during WW II.
Synopsis
A Bell for Adano is a film directed by Henry King starring John Hodiak and Gene Tierney. The film was adapted from the novel A Bell for Adano by John Hersey, which won the Pulitzer Prize in 1945. The story concerns Italian-American U.S. Army Major Joppolo, who is placed in charge of the town of Adano during the invasion of Sicily.
