About This Item
New York: Alfred A. Knopf. Very Good- in Good+ dust jacket. 1968. 1st US Edition; First Printing. Cloth. First American edition/first printing, sunned in Very Good- condition in alike, chipped dust-jacket. From the collection of Betty Anderson, legendary art director of publisher Knopf in the late 20th century as evidenced by her (small and unobtrusive) inventory numbers and signature on front paste down; Beatrice Webb was one of the most influential feminists of the early 20th century. She was the first woman to be appointed a full-time political editor of a major British newspaper, and she was also a leading figure in the Labour Party. In this biography, Kitty Muggeridge and Ruth Adam recount Webb's life story, from her childhood in rural England to her political career in London. Webb was a passionate advocate for social justice and equality, and her work helped to shape the Labour Party and the British welfare state. She was also a powerful writer and lecturer, and her writing and speeches were influential in shaping the feminist movement.; Photographs; 8vo; FSA .
