(London), 5 x 7 1/2 inches tall blue cloth hardbound, gilt lettering to front cover and spine, engraved frontispiece portrait of author Thomas a Kempis, xv, 126 pp. Minor rubbing and edgewear to covers, especially spine caps and tips. Stamp to front pastedown from London's The Archives of the Jesuits in Britain. Otherwise, a very good copy - clean, bright and unmarked - of this scarce compilation of Thomas a Kempis' meditations on the Blessed Virgin Mary, edited by 'Johannes Mercator,' which OCLC indicates is a pseudonym for Johannes Albertus Theodorus van Wessum. 1924 Imprimatur (Catholic Church approval) to verso of title page. OCLC (Nos. 781786851 and 559455875) locates only 10 copies worldwide, eight in the Netherlands and two in England at the British Library, St. Pancras (London) and BNB (Wetherby, West Yorkshire). ~KM4~
