Green cloth boards, red spine titles, mapped endpapers. Foreword by Sir Arthur Lee. Illustrated throughout in black and white and color photographs. Volume is in fine condition without marks, tears or folds, boards have very light fading near edges. Unclipped dustjacket has chipping tail and head of spine and light wear. "The Second World War came to the Pacific and shattered a dream. The battling armies created bleak infernos of the jewelled islands and laid them waste. The armies passed but the material remained: aircraft, tanks, cannon, landing craft, warships, beach defenders ... everything that could advance the attack and retard the enemy.
