About This Item

London: A & F Pears Ltd. ,. Very Good+ with no dust jacket. 1912. 1st Thus (Centenary Edition). Hardcover. One of the 5 Charming Pears' Centenary Editions of Dickens' Christmas Books. In original tan sand-grained cloth boards with bright gilt titling to both the spine and front cover, and an inlaid colour portrait of Pears' signature 'Bubbles' portrait to the centre of the front cover, with decorative black borders. The base colour to the spine is slightly faded as usual but the titling is still bright. The page fore-edges have some light foxing (very pale tan spots) but as the whole book is printed on quality paper these don't affect the inside. NO date but as the 'Centenary' Edition it has to be 1912. Internally Pears Advert Pastedowns in red/white and black. A b/w leaf advertising the 5 Christmas books (lightly spotted) , followed by the half title. Full page b/w Frontispiece. Illustrated Title page. 144pp. The rear free endpaper has 2 b/w pictorial Pears Adverts - one being the full Pears version of Millais' 'Bubbles'. Illustrated throughout in b/w. Contains 30 illustrations from original drawings by charles Green R. I. With an introduction by Clement Shorter. NO INscriptions or major marks - very clean, tight and bright. One of Dickens's lesser-known works, originally published in 1846, but as is typical with Dickens, the ending is a happy one. See Images. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .
