Description:
London: Darton and Co. , Holborn Hill,. Good with no dust jacket. 1855. Revised and Corrected Edition. Hardcover. In the original attractive pictorial and blind stamped blue morocco-grain cloth, with gilt titling and decoration to the spine, and a gilt illustration / part title to the front cover. The design is by John Leighton. Signed "JL" in gold as a monogram at the base of the vignette in the base foliage. The head/tail and corners of the book are 'soft' and rubbed, with a little light fraying, as are the edges, and some of the gilt is wearing away on the centre of the illustration. Small slits/tears to the top and bottom edges of both sides of the spine, but overall a very sound and attractive copy. Despite the small splits in the outer cloth as noted, ALL Hinges are tight - outer and inner. ALL fore-edges gilt. I am unable to find a date for this book - in fact I can't find a copy anywhere with THIS title - I have found Peter Parley's ''The Adventures… Read More

Y Drenewydd, Powys ( Newtown, Powys ): Gwasg Gregynog (Gregynog Press). Very Good with no dust jacket. 1980. Limited Edition No. 167/200. Hardcover. Quarter bound in dark green goatskin, black rule, with green buckram boards. The title embossed in blind on the upper cover and titling in bright gold to the spine. This is No 167 of a Limited Edition of 230 copies of which only 200 numbered copies are for sale (originally published in December 1980 at £112.00 apparently). 15 copies were 'Specials'. This copy has a little light damp staining to the bottom and front edge of the front board (around 2" at it's deepest) but this is hardly noticable as it melds neatly into the exisiting colour, all that is slightly different is the patina in that area. A slight difference in colour to the top front edge of the leather, and there is a small spot on the rear board, but apart from these noted 'faults' the covers are NF. The book is now protected in a new, removable, clear… Read More
