About This Item

Manila, Philippines : Dizon and Company, 2003 Dizon and Company, Manila, Philippines. 2003. Hardcover. Stated First Edition. Signed by the author on the title page. Book is tight, square, and unmarked. Book Condition: New; my personal copy/never opened/never read/in storage since purchase in 2005. No DJ as issued. Red laminate boards and spine with bright black lettering on the spine and front board; frontis photo of Japanese retiring the US colors after surrender of Corregidor. 293 pp 4to. The author lived on Corregidor for 10 years and was the Curator of the Pacific War Memorial Museum. He has interviewed hundreds of Corregidor defenders from the Army, the Marines, the Navy and the Army Air Corps along with many Filipinos who were acquainted with Corregidor before and after World War II. The author is probably the only living person with a great depth of knowledge about what really happened on Corregidor and especially to the USMC detachment. There has never been a book devoted to the particulars concerning the defense of Corregidor. Because of major voids in the official and accepted history of the battle, even the US Government's official history is "unofficial" at best. Over the past 20 years, the author has assembled and studied the world's largest resource library on the subject. With the loss of the island fortress and the loss of almost all official records followed by public relations spin and personal embellishments, no one has been able to bring the complete story to view, until now. A clean pristine copy.
