About This Item

London; (2001): Hamish Hamilton. First Edition. Octavo. 415 pages. The Guardian notes that he is "one of the most exciting, and most myteriously subline of contemporary European authors." In the summer of 1939, Jacques Austerlitz is sent to England as one of the Kindertransports and placed with foster parents in Wales. His strict Calvinist parents erase all hints of his origins but as he becomes an architectural historian, he begins a search which will continue in his retirement to solve the mystery of what happened to him more than half century earlier. A fine copy bound in maroon cloth, spine lettering gilt, in fine unclipped pictorial dust jacket lettered in white and gilt, spine lettered in black and gilt.

Sebald was killed in a car accident at age 57 in December 2001.
