Bright gilt title on slightly bumped backstrip. Leaves clean. Subject-portrait, art-illustrated (Sir James Gunn, 1945) dustjacket lightly edgeworn and U.V. affected on spine. The author endeavours to show the role Field Marshall Sir Claude Auchinleck played in the Western Desert during the First Battle of Alamein in July, 1942, which set the scene for Montgomery's better-known Second Battle of Alamein.
