About This Item

UK,8vo HB+dw/dj,1st edn thus. [Originally and first published by Century (LONDON) 1995,this edition published the same year,by arrangement with CENTURY.] FINE-/FINE-. No owner inscrptn and no clip to dw/dj - absence of published price as a Book Club Association issue - obtained initially by subscription/membership only. Bright, crisp, clean, glossy monochrome pictorial illustrated dw/d panels of dw/dj,with capitalised,white-lettered title+authors' names; lightly sunned/fafded spine/ backstrip with similarly coloured+lettered authors' names and part-title as front, rear panel with enlarged detail from front illustration and b/w barcode ISBN. Negligible shelf-wear,bumping,creasing to edges and corners – no nicks, tears or splits present. Top+fore-edges evenly aged/toned and clean without foxing/spotting; contents though tight, clean, solid and sound are with minimal page-edge toning and no intentional dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corner tips, would appear unread, other than my own collation.Publisher's bright, crisp,clean,sharp-cornered, original plain black cloth boards with bright, crisp, blocked gilt lettered spine/backstrip,and b/w 1888 Whitechpel map of location of the Ripper's murders and an inset key, repeated illustrated endpapers.UK,8vo HB+dw/dj,1st edn thus,xii-xxiiipp+2-275pp [paginated] includes a Foreword by Nick Warren,an Introduction by co-authors',Authors' Notes,Acknowledgements,20 chapters and an Afterword, 16pp contemporary b/w photographs and b/w illustrations reproductions in 2 blocks of 8pp apiece, between pp70/71 and pp166/67 respectively,Appendices (A-C),Sources,a 6pp Select Bibliography, and an Index; plus [unpaginated] 2pp blanks,half-title+title pages,a dedication,an epigram (The Littlechild Suspect) and a Contents list/table - the latter six items each with a blank verso, and to the rear,2pp blanks. Visually the exterior appearance is exceptional, and internally, the book is in a more than acceptable condition/ state of preservation and presentation for a book of its nearly 30 year-old age.It is only the minor, minimal, exterior faults described that prevents a slightly higher grading. Despite that,it really is still an exeptiona copy for reading and its subject matter. Newly discovered letters from one of the policemen (Chief Insp. John George Littlechild) leading the investigation into the identity of Jack the Ripper, revealed who the police believed was the culprit. Jack was an American who escaped police custody. When he fled London, the Ripper killings ceased, but then started up again on the other side of the Atlantic. A team of officers from Scotland Yard failed to track Francis J. Tumbelty down in America. Did the police 'lose' their files in order to cover up their own incompetence in letting him escape? Please contact seller, for correct shipping/P+p quotes - particularly ALL overseas buyers - BEFORE ordering through the order page! N.B. ALL buyers please note, that stocks' actual shipping/P+p costs are adjusted and any difference is refunded, after order's receipt and before the order's despatch, especially if the item(s) are offered either P+p included/FREE. ** N.B. US/Canada customers please be aware: Standard AIRMAIL postage from UK to these destinations can now cost more than the price of any inexpensive book! If speed is not of the essence, then Economy rate is recommended - at approx. anything from a 1/3rd to 1/2 of the standard AIR quote/rate - sometimes arriving sooner than the 42 days - but not always. **
