About This Item

[LGBTQ] Ann Bannon Lesbian Pulp Collection of Three First Edition Mass Market Paperbacks. Ann Bannon, pseudonym for Ann Weldy, began writing as a young, closeted housewife as a way to explore her own sexual identity. Her pulp novels provided complex and humanizing portraits of queer women, a rarity for the time. This collection includes: [1] The Marriage. Fawcett Publications: 1960. First edition, first printing. Attractive red cover art shows a man and woman caught in an embrace, a slash designed to look like a tear down the middle, title in bright yellow with text above it reading, "Could their love tower above society's deepest taboos?" Measures 4.25" x 7" in. 190 pages. [2] I Am a Woman In Love With A Woman Must Society Reject Me? First edition. Measures 4.25 x 7 inches, 224 pages. 1959 Gold Medal Books. I Am a Woman was her second lesbian pulp fiction novel and the first with an openly gay title. Notably, this volume has a happy ending--unique for LGBT stories at the time. [3] Women in the Shadows. Fawcett Publications: 1959. First edition. Measures 4.25 x 7 inches. 176 pages. Soft cover in hot pink shows a woman's shadowy profile with another woman's face interposed over it, her expression grim as she gazes out. Text beneath title reads "Their dark and troubled loves could flourish only in secret." All three books are in very good condition.
