Composed by the Studie and Trauels of John Weever. Full leather boards with stamped/gilt borders and a large embossed oblong centrepiece with dark ground to the front and back boards, with floral and griffin (or wyvern) decoration. The front board is detached and the rear board just holding. The spine has 5 raised bands and is poor, lacking some leather to the top compartment . Decorative inner and outer edge dentelles. The title label is missing and 'LOND. 1631' in gilt to the foot of the spine. With some TLC - rebacking, etc, ? - this will be a very handsome early binding. All Edges Gilt. Illustrated with a Portrait Frontispiece (small hole in the cross htching) , a full page Engraved Title page, and printed title page, plus 18 other engravings, some of which are full-page. Decorative Initial letters to the chapters. Overall the text block is tight and clean but with the odd small mark or hole here and there in the first 800 or so pages. From around there to the end of the book the paper has been damp in the past and is a little more friable and has more scattered tears/holes/rubs, mainly to the top edge/margin of the pages. The very bottom inch of the page block edge at this point is slightly wavy and very slightly jagged to the very edge of the blank margin near the very end. The text/print and illustrations however are generally fully complete, pretty dark and clear throughout. Collated and complete with the Engraved Frontispiece/Title Page/Printed Title, all engravings and full Index. Pretty Scarce. See Images. ; 4to 11" - 12" tall .
