About This Item
Bristol: Lavars's, 1863. An almanac for 1863, but more importantly a handsome advertisement for this printing establishment located at Broad St. Hall, Bristol, UK. The elaborate border of medallions and views is printed in gold, red, green & blue. The corner views are of bell ringers "Ringing in the New Year"' ;"the Waits"; "Mouth of the Avon" (river at Bristol); "Autumn Scene at Frenchay". Within other medallions surrounding the margins are the crests of the Mayor, Sheriff, MPs, Society of Merchants, etc of Bristol. In self-promotion, they state they undertake "Every Description of Lithography from the Plainest to the most elaborate at Prices Defying Competition" and "The Most Complete Lithographic Establishment in the West of England, Ordnance Map Depot". 12 1/2 X 15 1/2", on stiff paper. It is unclear whether this is die-cut to create a fancy border or trimmed at a later date.
