New York: Harper and Brothers, 1901. First Edition thus. Hardcover. Very good-/good +. Large octavo, 192pp., illustrated. About very good in the publisher's cream boards, stamped in gilt. Some foxing to boards, and mild intermittent foxing internally. Still a crisp, sound example. In the uncommon olive green stiff dust jacket, backed with white cloth, as issued. Soiling to the interior of the jacket, and one 2-inch closed tear near the base. Spine panel mildly sunned; overall good or better. Owner's name and the date of Christmas 1901 on the front free endpaper. Not a fine copy, but still a pleasing copy of this lovely edition of Carroll's classic.
Synopsis
Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and its sequel, Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There , tell the story of a young girl in a fantasy world filled with peculiar, anthropomorphic creatures. The classic tale of literary nonsense takes the reader on an exploration of logic and absurdities. The Alice books — sometimes combined or referred to with the abbreviated title Alice in Wonderland — have been translated into at least 97 languages with over a hundred different editions. The books have also been adapted numerous times into films (both live-action and cartoon), plays, and musicals.
