About This Item

Hodder and Stoughton, 1938. Hardback. Very Good. Gwynedd Hudson. First hardback printing of this Gwynedd Hudson illustrated edition, 1938, with no jacket - the original illustrated boards have been professionally re-backed in tan leather, the spine with five raised bands, gilt decoration and titles. In overall very good used condition with only minor signs of age, handling and storage - original cloth boards slightly rubbed and a little soiled, leather spine as-new. Binding tight and appears little read. Internally clean, no annotation - contemporary gift inscription to front endpaper dated Xmas 1939; toning to page-ends with some light spots of foxing here and there but text, decorated endpapers, colour plates and illustrations bright and clear throughout. Photographs available. Not an old library book.

Synopsis

Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and its sequel, Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There , tell the story of a young girl in a fantasy world filled with peculiar, anthropomorphic creatures. The classic tale of literary nonsense takes the reader on an exploration of logic and absurdities. The Alice books — sometimes combined or referred to with the abbreviated title Alice in Wonderland — have been translated into at least 97 languages with over a hundred different editions. The books have also been adapted numerous times into films (both live-action and cartoon), plays, and musicals.

About Hall of Books

We sell secondhand books and sheet music online and offer an eclectic (perhaps eccentric!) selection ranging from modern first edition hardbacks and quality paperbacks to the interesting, unusual and rare; the hard-to-find, collectable and out-of-print....and a lot more in between! We do our best to describe and photograph our books and music accurately, and to package them securely when they sell. We do not rely on stock images. If you need more information on a particular item, or if we have not yet uploaded a photograph for a particular listing, please contact us and we will respond by return.
