Hardcover, blue cloth boards with decorations on front and gilt text on spine. Front cover has bright colors though some rubbing is present. The reason for the low grade is the upper left section of the front board has some rippling, as does the extreme top left rear board. This may have been caused by exposure to moisture. The front interior pastedown also show some wrinkling in a very minor split near the top of the hinge. Remaining text pages are good, no hinge issues. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings. The only issue found on the interior pages is on the third page of Lists of Illustrations (in the front of the book), where there is a small chip on the fore edge, near the upper outside corner. Blue illustrated book boards have a bubbled front cover with worn corners. Crown is lacking less than 1/8 ", with mild fraying to foot of spine cloth. Illustrated with numerous b/w photographs throughout (all present). Frontispiece has a tiny chip to lower corner margin. Does not detract. A very sophisticated period 'seafaring' bookplate on front end-paper. The last 70 pages have about 1" of damp-stain to upper margins, NOT impacting text or photographs. A tight text block. 448 pages. Protected in a archival mylar slip. Priced to reflect blemishes.
