About This Item
London: William Mullan and Son, 1879. 1st ed. Hardcover. Very Good. 2 color maps (1 folding, the other as frontis), illustrations, viii, 488p. Recent quarterbinding (marbled boards backed in light tan leather). 22cm. Scattered foxing (heaviest on the folding map). All edges marbled. Burton left for India with her husband Richard in December, 1875 and returned to Trieste in June 1866. Her account is almost entirely devoted to the time spent in India with much shorter accounts of the voyages to and from, including an interesting chapter on a stop at Jeddah on the way to India. Portions of this book are generally thought to have been written by her husband.
