Association copy, signed, dated and numbered by Jack Huttig "To Harold and Marge Evans, my oldest and very best friends, Jack Huttig, 6-5-80. / #5 of 6 "authors copies" ?? by Nelson-Hall." This book documents the attempts of men and women aviators to win the Orteig Prize for flying nonstop from New York to Paris and the Dole race from Oakland to Hawaii. The Orteig Prize was a reward offered to the first Allied aviator(s) to fly non-stop from New York City to Paris or vice versa. Several famous aviators made unsuccessful attempts at the New York–Paris flight before the relatively unknown American Charles Lindbergh won the prize in 1927 in his aircraft Spirit of St. Louis. The Dole Air Race, also known as the Dole Derby, was a deadly air race across the Pacific Ocean from Oakland, California to Honolulu in the Territory of Hawaii held in August 1927. ; 8vo .
