About This Item

London: Routledge and Kegan Paul, 1967. A Fine unmarked copy with VG+ dustjacket which has a small repaired closed tear to rear and is not price clipped. xxxi + 254 pages. The year 1848 was, in France as in several other European countries, a 'year of revolution'. There, as elsewhere, the monarchy was overthrown and the republic proclaimed, and a new liberal constitution was enacted by the nation's representatives. But in France, perhaps more than elsewhere, the revolution was deeply marked by the impact of the streets and workers' clubs and took the form of a protracted social drama, in which the players appear in the guise not only of political leaders but of contending social classes struggling for control of the state. Duveau shows the part played by such important personalities as Lamartine and Ledru-Rollin, and explains the various ideologies - including those of Marx, Saint-Simon, Fourier and Proudhon - which influenced the thought of man in 1848. **** NOT EX LIB **** A1E. First Edition. Hard Cover. Fine/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
