The promoters of the World Congress on the Cork Oak and Cork (Lisbon 2000) are responsible for the contents of this publication, which was financed by the European Agricultural Guarantee and Guidance Fund and by the Portuguese Government. The text (in Portuguese with English translation) is partially based on the exhaustive work of Prof. Joaquim Vieira Natividade, and the main objective is to help make the cork oak, and cork as a material, known as a universal heritage, the protection, defence and improvement of which is a public obligation.
