Description:
Norway 1994. The 150-year history of a single public building in Oslo, ‘The Lodge’, which has served since 1814 as an assembly room, concert hall, political meeting place, royal ballroom and artists’ carneval grounds. It was used as a Masonic lodge, and from 1900 until the German occupation it was Oslo’s city hall. It was a jazz venue visited by Louis Armstrong in the inter-war years, and it later acted as a courtroom, then as offices and canteen for Oslo’s dock workers. 10 authors have contributed to this illustrated anthology that illuminates this unique bridge between art, culture, political an public life. The Lodge was recently refurbished as Oslo’s prime concert hall. , Norwegian, Year1994, Illust. B/W125, Illust. Color27, ISBN 8270031267, Code 3130.
