Description:
264 pages with diagrams, tables, photographic plates, bibliography and index. Octavo (8 1/4" x 6") bound in original publisher's pictorial cover. First edition. The international Tournament in cologne in 1898 was one of the few significant tournaments held by the German Chess Association about which the usual tournament volume - the Kongressbuch, was not published. This book includes descriptions of the play taken from newspapers and chess magazines of the time together with 54 of the 128 games played, crosstable, photographs, biographies and tournament records of the participants and a brief look at the minor tournaments played alongside the main congress. The main tournament was won by Amos Burn ahead of Charousek, Cohn, Chigorin, Steinitz and Schlecter. Condition: Light edge… Read More
