Description:
Istanbul: Ege Yayinlari, 2023. New. Paperback. 15x21 cm. In English. 312 p. B/w and colour ills. This book in your hands presents a detailed account of St. John's Church on Ayasuluk Hill (Ayasuluk Citadel), İsabey Mosque and Baths, and Artemis Temple and the Seven Sleepers site, which all are constituents of Ephesus, an ancient city on the UNESCO World Heritage List. There is no doubt all these monuments shall define a new itinerary for visitors on the Ephesus–Selçuk route. The book begins with a short visitors' guide for Ayasuluk Hill, followed by archaeological and art historical information. The Church of St. John, which is the most important monument of Byzantine Ephesus, occupies a substantial place in the book. Furthermore, not included in the former book but included here is the information about the excavation and restoration work carried out since 2007 at the Citadel and the monuments therein, which was opened to visitors in 2014.
