It was just to be an occupation during the hard times, but trapping the head- waters of the Freeman River lasted for thirty-two years. The Freeman, a tributary of the Athabasca, was where Garth be- gan his log river driving. When the oil companies invaded the Swan Hills, trapping came to an end. British Columbia and Through necessity, Garth moved to ran a tug boat for three years for a logging company. When that job folded he operated a barge for seven years for Granisle Mines.
