From the publisher

Kokopelli heard his mother's voice saying, "Kokopelli, do not be worried. A new friend will accompany you soon, and he will be of great help to you in a variety of ways. Be patient, and learn what you can of your surroundings and prepare yourself for much adventure and travel. The sun god, and we, your father and I, will be watching with pride the many things you are destined to accomplish." In 1995, archaeologists discovered a Mayan village, which had been attacked by raiders, in the overgrown limestone mountains of southern Mexico. It was determined that everyone had been killed, but the temple remained untouched, with the interior paintings and etchings still visible. Author Donald Ensenbach used this village as inspiration for his story of a well-known seventh-century Native American-Kokopelli. Known as a traveling trader and a mythical god of fertility, Kokopelli was orphaned at the age of twelve and forced to make his way into the world all alone. He soon met Koloki, an old and established trader, who showed him how to gather goods and sell them to local villages, but will Kokopelli be able to navigate the ups and downs of his own heart as easily? Myth and reality collide when you enter the world of Kokopelli.
