Cannibal Isles: Time-Travelling in the Andaman Islands Paperback - 2003

by David Tomory

From the publisher

For many people, the Andaman Islands exist mostly in the imagination. For David Tomory, the fascination began with a childhood reading of "The Sign of Four." He set out to explore the real and imagined islands. Within living memory it had been a place of horror, Kalapani, the Black Water from which prisoners could not escape. The Cellular Jail was still there, slowly being reclaimed by the jungle, but the Adamanese tribes - the inspiration for Conan Doyle's story - have been 'protected' to the point of extinction. David Tomory divides his time between India and London. His previous books on India include a history of Goa and 'A Season in Heaven: True tales from the road to Kathmandu'.
