Animation provides a rich environment for actively exploring algorithms. Multiple, dynamic, graphical displays of an algorithm reveal properties that might otherwise be difficult to comprehend or even remain unnoticed. This exciting new approach to the study of algorithms is taken up by Marc Brown in "Algorithm Animation."Brown first provides a thorough and informative history of the topic, and then describes the development of a system for creating and interacting with such animations. It grew out of the Electronic Classroom project at Brown University where Marc H. Brown received his doctorate. He is currently a Principal Software Engineer at the Digital Equipment Corporation Systems Research Center in Palo Alto.
