About the author


Mervyn Hyde is Professor Emeritus and Academic Director of the International Projects Group in the School of Education at the University of the Sunshine Coast in Australia. He has been a teacher in Special Schools, school principal, university professor, researcher and, academic manager in universities for over 40 years. He has also authored many journal manuscripts, books, book chapters and conducted large research projects in several countries and is recognized for his work on inclusion and on the field of deafness studies. Dr. Lorelei Carpenter is Senior Lecturer and Chair of Learning and Teaching Working Group at the School of Education and Professional Studies in Griffith University. She has worked in the area of Inclusive Education, Special Needs Education and Personal Counselling for more than twenty years. Lorelei's primary interest is in exploring how society defines and treats people of difference. Robert Conway is the Dean of the School of Education at Flinders University. His background is as a teacher in both regular and special education, and his key research and teaching interests lie in the area of students with emotional and behaviour problems in both mainstream and specialist settings and in inclusion of students with special needs. He works closely with school systems in supporting students with behaviour problems, has worked both nationally and internationally on a wide range of research and consultancy projects, and is a frequent keynote speaker at national and international conferences.
