After England began to fill with POW from Axis nations, the US in the summer of 1942 began the internment of POWs. New Mexico housed more than 10,000 POWs in two large base camps at Roswell and Lordsburg and at 19 branch camps throughout the state. The German and Italian POWs were used in agriculture as farm labor and received their pay from the US Army. This is the story of the POWs, their life, the camps, and their organization and operation during the war years. A clean new copy.
