"The subject matter was still that of fairies, elves and children... Although this was a world of the imagination there were some Australian motifs such as spider-orchids, monk-hoods, or blow-fly grass which she had seized on for their qualities" (Muir, 'The History of Australian Children's Book Illustration'). Third Edition. Oblong small quarto, original pictorial papered boards with red cloth backstrip, plates and vignettes throughout; light scattered foxing, a very good copy.

B/w illustrations throughout by Ida S. Rentoul. Spine and corners bumped with wear to corners. Edges rubbed. Covers a bit grubby. Tiny booksellers sticker to front pastedown. Inscription in ink to front endpaper. Endpapers lightly browned, foxing to contents. Quite a number of the illustrations have been very neatly coloured in. A very scarce book.

Black & white frontispiece and 30 full page black and white drawings and in-text black & white drawings by Ida S. Rentoul (later Rentoul Outhwaite). Foreword by Ethel Turner. 2nd issue of the first printing with the corrected 'Ride on a Comet' on page 53. 184 pages. Contains 8 stories. Tarella Quin [1877-1945] was a highly successful writer of Australian fairy stories. She later published under her married name of Tarella Quin Daskein. Ida Rentoul, later Ida Rentoul Outhwaite was the famous Australian fairy illustrator. . 1st Edition, 2nd printing. Hardback.

Two small dents to cover foredges, Contents near fine with just the occasional very pale mark. A super copy of this rare fairy book.

Rare original poetry book with cloth covered boards, copyright 1880 by J. W. Shoemaker & Co. This edition published in 1906 by the Penn Publishing company, Philadelphia. From the estate of my great-great grandfather.Includes many unique poems and recitations such as "To a skull", "Uncle Daniel's Introduction to a Mississippi Steamer", "The Leak in the Dyke", etc. More well-known poetry includes "Song of Birds", "Old Ironsides", and "Bannock Burn" by Robbie Burns. Light rubbing and bumps to outside spine edges. Back cover and interior cloth covered board has a stain at top. Original owner's name and address from 1908, but no other writing or marks. First 2 pages have a stain at top, but text of 192 pages of poetry and recitations is totally clean with light tanning of pages.
