Norman: The University of Oklahoma Press, 1949. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. 8vo. [6], ix-xvi, [2], 3-283, [5] pp. Grey cloth with silver lettering on the spine; red topstain. Illustrated with several black and white photographs. Published in cooperation with The Huntington Library, Dale recounts the history of U.S. and Native American relations (specifically relations with the indigenous people of what is now New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Nevada, and California). The missteps by the U.S. Government, and the ways in which Native Americans tried to retain their culture and way of life are recorded here, along with the state of affairs in mid-twentieth century Native communities. A Very Good book with offsetting to the pastedowns and minor yellowing to the fore-edge; dust jacket is Very Good and price-clipped with edge wear, some fading to the spine panel. Book and jacket have a moderate tobacco odor.
